Palermo's
Capuchin monastery has unique burial chambers dating back several
centuries. These "catacombs" are an attraction for
visitors but also an insight into the past. Pietro Sciortino's
series deals with this unusual aspect of past Palermitan life.
There's an irony here in that people vist the monastery to look
at the cadavers. But, collectively, the assembled bodies resemble
a theatre of observers watching the visitors. |
